The OMG/MAF (Mobile Agent Facility) addressed in a draft specification the interface that is needed to control agents and keep track of them. It does not deal with communication between agents. Furthermore MAF aims at mobile agents. That means it also specifies all parameters that are needed to recreate an agent in a specific state at a given node. This is not required for an application control system. Applications do not move from node to node. They can however be created on a given subset of CPUs in the cluster. Exactly this functionality is also used for partitioning the system into different areas of responsibility. As our model deviates from MAF we do not call the programs that are controlled agents anymore, but task capsules. An overview of the interface can be found in appendix A.4.
