1 Introduction

ATTENTION: Please take notie of the incident described in the section Installation!

This is the documentation for the CMS online software release called DAQKit. The DAQKit is a consistent set of software packages which should work seamlessly together. It contains an example of a small DAQ system consisting of two Fedkits an Eventbuilder and a dummy Filter Unit. This example could serve as a template for real word local DAQ systems or testbeam systems.

The documentation for older versions of the DAQKit can be retrieved here:

This set of pages guides you through the installation of the DAQKit It should be possible to go step by step through the items represented by the links on the left side of every page. When you can skip an item it will be indicated in the text.

The instructions start with the installation of the system for which this release DAQkit has been prepared and tested. (The release number can be found on the right hand corner of each page of this documentation.) You should go through this step to at least verify that you have a compliant system installed on your machine(s). If you have a similar system installed you will might also get the online software running but probably you will need to execute some additional steps which depend on your setup and are not described in these instructions.

This documentation does not substitute any manual for the individual software components (See section Documentation!). In order to successfully work with the DAQKit you must have some reasonable knowledge of each of the packages. These pages define the reference platform on which the DAQKit is guaranteed to work, and the versions of the individual software packages. In addition some minimal instructions to get a small system running (the example) are given as a "quickstart-help".

A table of contents with the dates of last modifications for each page of the documentation can be obtained by clicking on the "last changed" footer below each documentation page. Always reload the documentation in your browser to make sure that you do not read an old version of a page!
